New life in Bangkok

Hello from Bangkok!!!!!! Yes, I am still alive. Sorry I have not been able to update my blog for such a long time. Finally I have a stable access to internet. So much has happened since last update... let's see... where to start...

1. Moving to Bangkok, Thailand..

I now live in Bangkok, not Tokyo, still working for the same company, but its Bangkok office. From here, I am involved in our office's Thailand and Cambodia operations. The Cambodian part was, obviously, a deciding factor for me to take this position. Honestly, after working for two months in this office, I am starting to debate if this was a right decision. But I will just try harder so I know my materials more and ... hopefully, that should make my job more interesting... right?

In Bangkok, I live in an area called Sukhumvit, which is a famous residential area for foreigners, including Japanese. Initially, I wanted to live in a more local flavoured area, but I am starting to like the area, since it has so many cheap massage places, shops, etc. Plus, I get to see all these oyaji (old men) drunk with beautiful Thai girls, making fool of themselves, and somehow, this, makes me feel good about myself. (Yes, I do realize that it is not healthy way to feel good about myself, looking at the lowest of the lows... but got to start somewhere...).

I live in a high-rise apartment, where lots of Japanese, foreigners, along with Thais live, mostly with families. Apartment is somewhat old, thus cheapest in the area. It looks new due to a recent renovation, but cracks on walls, ACs that cannot adjust temperatures, tons of ants that are coming from every whole in the apartment will remind you how old this place is... But I live it, it has running hot water, it's clean enough, and it has a fantastic view of Bangkok city. I am also getting used to seeing an army of ants running on my food after I leave the food out for a while, too....
　

2. Getting Robbed...

So, after one month of living in Bangkok and starting to feel almost comfortable and safe here, I get robbed. GREAT! It didn't happen in a dark human-less alley of some outskirts areas... I was robbed right in front of the Four Seasons Hotel in the middle of the city, on a sidewalk, by a bike-taxi, in front of many people!!! #Q*&Y28735Y02587Y!!! Me being me, I only had 15 Baht (about 50 yen) worth coins in my wallet, and everything taken were pretty cheap. But my wallet, bag, phone, cards, ...everything is gone in a matter of two seconds.

I went to a police, and there was a line of girls (both foreigners and Thai) who got robbed, probably by the same people. Watch out ladies!!! THIS RAGE.... I need to find a way to handle this.... Oh... if you know how to go about re-issuing a driver license (Virginia State) fast, let me know..

3. Other things...

What else has been going on...? I went to Cambodia three times for business trips, going back there again in a week. I am looking forward to reporting you on that soon... I enrolled myself for a belly dancing class (yes, there is one) , and a scuba diving course. I will start my Thai language school this coming Thursday. I have been doing my part in contributing to Thai economy (covered all major shopping malls in the city.)

So overall, I am enjoying my life in Bangkok and I cannot wait to let you know all about it.

皆さん！久々のブログアップデートになってしまいました。ごめんなさい。今週末、やっとインターネットがつながりました。。。あーやっと、世界とツナガッタ。。。


前回のブログ更新時から、いろいろありました。。。

１．バンコクへの引越し

3月末の契約終了と同時に、東京での勤務は辞め、タイ、バンコクに引越しました。3年間も東京でよく耐えたなー。。。

今までと同じ会社のバンコク事務所に勤務です。バンコクでは、タイ及びカンボジア案件にかかわっていくことになります。カンボジアは一応、紛争後支援として見れないこともないし、、、ということもあり、このポジションを選んだんですが。。。。タイもカンボジアも、インドネシアやフィリピンオペレーションとは、全く違い、びっくりです。　とりあえず、今はがんばるのみ。。

バンコクでは、スクンビットという、日本人駐在員や外国人が多い居住地区にすんでいます。もう少し、日本人街から遠ざかり、ローカル色の強いところにすみたかったのですが、しょうがないです。日本人というと、このあたりしか紹介されなかった。。。でも、きれいなスーパーはあるし、一応安全そうだし、マッサージ屋さん多いし（しかも、日本語通じるし）、すみやすいので気に入っています。　時々おやじ軍団がよっぱらって、タイ人の女のことカラオケやさんから出てくる姿も見れます。

このあたりの物件では一番安いらしい、高層コンドミニアムに住んでいます。住人は、日本人が多く、その他外国人とタイ人もいるかなっていう程度。。。外見はきれいなんだけど、温度調整がきかないエアコンや、明らかにメンテがされていないFacilities、穴という穴から多量のアリさんが出てくるところなどが、このアパートの古さを物語っています。。。（倒れないといいけど。。。）　でも、一応高層で、25階に住んでいるので眺めは最高です！

２．バンコクで引ったくりに会う！

この前、ひったくりに会いました。人通りのない暗ーい路地を歩いていたわけでもなく、バンコクの中心部にある、Four Seasonsという一流ホテルのまん前で、しかもたくさん周りに人がいる中で、しかも歩道を歩いているときに、後ろからきた2人乗りのバイクタクシーにひったくられました。（むかつくー!!）　でも、現金は15バーツ程度（50円くらい）しかもっていなかったから、よかったです（警察でも、会社のローカルスタッフにも、そんなお金じゃ、家にもかえれないのに、何でそれだけしかもっていなかったの？ってなぜか攻められました。。。）　財布も、かばんも、カード類も全部（安物ですが。。）もってかれたから、本当むかつく。　人どおりの多いところを歩きましょうとか、かばんは歩道側にかけましょうとか（かけてました）、いろいろ聞くけど、盗まれるときは盗まれるのねー。。。皆さん、気をつけて。。。

３．その他

バンコクに来てから、カンボジアには既に3回行きました。でも、会議ばかりで観光やしいことは何ひとつやってません。。。

あと、バンコクにもベリーダンスクラスを発見！早速入校し、毎週土曜に通ってます。（便秘解消に最高！！！）　タイ語教室は、今週の木曜より開始予定。楽しみー。　スキューバスクールにも申し込み済み。ということで、今のところ、バンコク生活をEnjoyしています。
